SAF creates good-paying jobs and new economic opportunities for farmers and communities in rural America. SAF can be made from crops, plants, captured gases, or agricultural waste and debris. This creates new markets for American agriculture, bioenergy, and technology developers.
The 2023 Census of Agriculture shows that the number of farms and ranches in the U.S. declined by 7% since 2017.
Without new revenue streams, we could see further declines in the number of farms and agricultural income.
The recent Farm Income Forecast from the United States Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service shows that net cash farm income and total crop receipts have declined since 2022. That trend is expected to continue.
Increasing the production of SAF would help farmers and ranchers by creating a new demand for their crops, which could be used as feedstocks.
Investing in SAF will also generate more jobs in rural communities, as more biomass supply chains and biorefineries are built.
Producing SAF in the U.S. with American-grown crops creates new markets for our farmers at a time when they are most needed.
