Many issues in Washington, D.C. are politically divisive. Supporting sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is not one of them. A large, and growing, coalition of elected Republicans and Democrats in Congress understand that SAF allows America’s aviation industry to meet growing demand for fuel, and advance American energy independence while creating new markets for American agriculture.
This year, Congress extended the 45Z tax credit for SAF by two additional years. Although extending the tax credit is a positive development, lowering the value of the credit makes new SAF projects less financially viable. This means less SAF will be produced in the U.S., which undermines America’s leadership in producing and exporting SAF.
Congress must restore the full value of the SAF tax credit so we can grow America’s rural economies, create new markets for our farmers, and secure a stronger energy future for our nation.
